The Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston is pleased to announce that the 53rd Gala of the Americas was a success both in terms of attendance and fundraising. Five scholarships, worth $8,000, were awarded to deserving students at the Gala, which was held on Saturday, October 27 at the Petroleum Club of Houston. Past presidents of the Institute, Dr. Pedro Caram and Ing. Carlos Sera, and their wives, Dr. Dorothy Caram and Mrs. Miriam Sera, were recognized for their dedication and continued support over the past five decades. Dr. Norma Pérez was also recognized, a previous Institute scholarship recipient who today serves as Vice Chancellor of Instructional Services/Chief Academic Officer.
The Institute is grateful for the presence and generosity of more than 220 guests representing the city’s medical, cultural, business and political sectors who helped raise over $40,000 for scholarships and Institute’s funding. We are pleased to announce the delivery of fifteen more scholarships during the first semester of 2019. We also thank our master of ceremonies, Venezuelan journalist and model Carmen Montiel, as well as Leonardo Quintero, Consul General of Colombia, and his wife for attending the event. The Gala featured special entertainment from Intempo Ensemble, Ballet Ambassadors, Mariachi Los Gallitos, guitarist Enrique Infante, violinist Eddy Marcano, and live music by Walter Suhr and Mango Punch!
The Institute is incredibly grateful for all contributions as they allow us to continue to aid promising Hispanic youth in the Houston area.
